〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Jin Ling
CHARACTER AGE: 17
SERIES: The Untamed
CHRONOLOGY: Episode 50
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: random housing is fine
BACKGROUND: wiki
note: this is technically for the novel/animation but his story in the drama is very much the same. If this isn't acceptable I can write out a history for him. The slight differences do not really change who Jin Ling is, his choices or his story.
PERSONALITY: Outwardly, Jin Ling's most easily definable trait is that he is very prideful. On the outside, he appears to think highly of himself and his capabilities, and that combined with his short temper has him often behaving erratically when he's upset or feels he has been slighted. Early on in the series, he is embarrassed in front of a group of people and that perhaps adds to his carelessness when he makes a wish in front of the Dancing Fairy statue and then later when he tries to attack it on his own. Not only does this stem from wanting to repair his pride but that he does also want to prove himself to his uncle especially but to others as well that he's capable.
In addition, one of his other easily noticeable traits is that he is arrogant. He takes a lot of pride in who he is and his abilities. He wants people to view him as if he is worthy and strong. He cannot stand the idea of not living up to what is expected of him, the incredibly high expectations that Jiang Cheng has set for him. This also ties into the fact that it is extremely easy to rile Jin Ling up. He is easily brought to anger and defensiveness. He becomes loud and brash at the slightest slight and makes over the top proclamations about what he will or could do. He doesn't take to failure well and it makes him continue to act more and more carelessly sometimes endangering not only himself but others. Although these traits can sound very negative in the end they make Jin Ling brave. Not only does he want to prove himself but he also has a desire to protect others. He doesn't want to see people that don't deserve it get hurt.
Jin Ling's outward brashness covers the underlying grief of an orphan and rage and vengefulness towards those responsible for his parents' death. He hates Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning deeply for most of his life. However, though, he can be very stubborn he is not so much that he refuses to let go of his anger that is directed at the wrong targets. He had even started to soften before he knew the truth with certainty as their acts around him showed their true colors.
Jin Ling has had a lot of trouble with people his age for most of his life. His status as an orphan always an issue that separated him from others. He does not appear to get along with the Jin disciples at all. It would be easy to say that he has probably often been lonely and his dog Fairy has been his best companion. When he starts to meet the Juniors he is stand-offish and tries to behave as if he is better than them and knows more than they do. Over time, it's clear to see that his attitude towards them shifts from one of trying to be superior to being a part of a friend group for probably the first time in his life.
At the point that Jin Ling is coming from, he has just been nearly killed by his uncle Jin Guangyao as he was used as a hostage when the other tried to escape. The knowledge that not Wei Wuxian but Jin Guangyao, the man who is half of the duo that raised him had been behind the murders of his parents, among countless other unnecessary deaths of innocent and good people for his own selfish means. For Jin Ling this is difficult to understand how the Uncle who had got him his dog could turn around and order it to be searched for and killed. Jin Ling despite everything remained torn despite his anger and grief.
POWER: Fairy: His dog Fairy is a spirtual dog, mostly normal but with some key differences. Even for a dog, Fairy has heightened senses and is more alert to what is going on in the world. She can sense danger (whether it be ghosts or otherwise) and is very protective of Jin Ling. She's extremely intelligent and clever in the ways that she saves and helps her master.
Healing tears: Basically what it says on the tin, his tears can completely heal minor injuries, severe injuries it wouldn't heal completely but it would lessen the extent of the injury.

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
[ There's an exasperated sigh as Jin Ling gets the broadcast going, finally. ]
Can anyone please explain to me why people everywhere here seem to think that it's okay to just walk up and pet someone's dog! They're lucky my dog hasn't decided to just rip their hands off. What must I do to get people to leave her alone?
[ It might be more that he wants people to leave him alone more than anything else. ]
The next person that touches Fairy without permission is going to have to answer to me!
[ The voice had gotten less exasperated and more haughty and condescending by the last statement. ]
